Welcome! I am Jiho Seok, a Ph.D. candidate in Bioengineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. 

My research agenda centers on synthetic biology: designing biological systems, detecting biological targets, and applying these approaches to a broad range of biotechnology challenges. Specifically, my research focuses on the following areas.

1) I design programmable isothermal nucleic acid amplification technologies to develop point-of-care biosensors for pathogen detection in real-world settings. 

2) I use cell-free systems to analyze biological reactions and investigate the operating principles and engineering potential of biological systems. 

3) I combine biosensing with systems metabolic engineering to construct microbial cell factories that respond to detected signals and produce valuable bioproducts. 

I hold both a B.S. and an M.S. in Biotechnology from Korea University. I also served as a CBRN defense officer in the Republic of Korea Air Force.
